GRUPO Installs and operates 4.2 MW photovoltaic solar energy park on Grand Canary Island
May 6, 2011

Grupotec, through its solar division, was awarded the contract for the second phase of the Mercalaspalmas tender, calling for the installation of a photovoltaic solar energy plant on the roofs of the company warehouses located south of the city of Las Palmas on Grand Canary Island.

At the Board of Directors meeting held last January 27, Mercalaspalmas decided to award Grupotec, under a concession plan, the contract for the installation and subsequent operation of a roof-mounted 1,500 kW photovoltaic solar energy plant. This installation joins the 1,800 kW system which the company was awarded some months previously...

Two less powerful installations will be added to these 3.3 MW of power, composing a photovoltaic solar energy park in the Mercalaspalmas industrial complex with a total installed power of approximately 4 MW.

The evacuation of this power to the grid will take place through the installation of a medium voltage line connected to the transport grid and the replacement of a power transformer in the southeast of Marzagán. For the execution of these projects, an agreement was negotiated and signed between the Endesa distribution company and Grupotec, which guarantees the latter the availability of up to 4.2 MW of evacuation capacity through the previously mentioned line.

The estimated total investment will be around 12M€ over the approximately two years planned for completing the works of the various installations.

Grupotec expects to begin the works on the first installation (1800 kW) in May or June of 2011.
